Hi, I am Lidiane Mocko with Mocko Consulting and we are here today for another episode of Mocko Mondays and today, we are going to talk about marketing automation. So what is marketing automation? Marketing automation is a type of software that gives you the tools to track your leads and send them automatic and personalized emails, personalized being the keyword here. It also gives you reports on how your sales and marketing efforts are going.
What does that mean?
Well, it’s kind of like a big brother that tells you who open your emails, when they open it, how many times they clicked it, how many times they open it. And you would be amazed because some people open your emails a lot. So you hear the word automation and you’re like sign me up! It’s automated. I don’t need to do anything, right? Wrong! Sorry to tell you but there is a bit of work that you need to do first. Very first thing, you need to have a CRM with a segmented list. Yeah, we’re biased on the CRM side because that’s what we do, you can get away with email marketing software. So next you need to create content that is relevant for your audience. A word of caution here, for sales and marketing automation to work your content needs to be right on it has to be relevant engaging. It has to address the concerns of your target market, otherwise your contacts are going to unsubscribe from your list, and you’re not going to be able to market them to them anymore. And the last step is permission. You also need to get permission from your contacts to send them. If you don’t you’re going to be violating the Spam act. Now let’s say that you have your list that you got permission from everybody. Think “What can I do?” You can create a sequence of emails advertising a product or a service. One of our clients uses a sequence of emails to advertise our skincare treatment if you ae a landscape designer for example, you can send your clients a reminder to make sure that they book their projects earlier in the season, to get their landscaping done during spring and summer. If you’re an accountant, you can send people a sequence of emails with all the reminders for tax deadlines, or you can use marketing automation to reach out to past clients about a new product or service that complements one of their previous purchases.
Remember it’s a lot easier to sell to your existing clients than to acquire new clients.
You might be asking how, how do I do these sequences? Well, you need a product in there are several options. Some of them include Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Infusionsoft, the Mission Suite, Automational, Active Campaign, Hubspot to name a few. You know if you do a google search, you’re going to find a lot more.
