Kristen: Hello and thank you for joining us today for our fifth episode of Mocko Mondays.

I’m Kristen Ennis and today we thought we’d address one of the most common question about me here I’m a small business owner do I really need a CRM? Because we’re sure many of you are wondering first of all what is a CRM and secondly why would I ever need one?

Well, we know it can sound sort of complicated, so we’re here to give you some insight on what a CRM or customer relationship management system can do for you. To give you the big picture, a CRM can help you with collaboration by allowing you to share information in assigned tasks, conserve your time through automation, and save you money by avoiding opportunities falling through the cracks, and save you effort by providing a sole source of information to track your business data, and it can also help you prioritize by coordinating efforts within your team to ensure that everyone is on the same page. All of this is on top of providing a simple database to manage your contact information.

Now big corporations have been using CRM systems for a long time, and up until a few years ago the cost of CRM was prohibitive for small organizations. Now cloud-based solutions are affordable for small businesses, and you can access them anytime anywhere through your mobile device. It’s important to keep in mind that the way small business owners use a CRM is different big corporations. Big corporations primarily track their interactions with current and prospective clients, whereas small business owners on the other hand need to manage relationships with their entire small business community because I’m sure many of you know maintaining strong relationships within your network is crucial to the success of a small business, and if you’re a solopreneur we know you’re already busy enough.

One thing you might want to keep in mind is Dunbar’s number which says that your cognitive ability to maintain relationships is limited to 150 contacts at one time on your own so, if your network is greater than that, which I’m sure to most of yours are a CRM can really help you to take some of the load off your brain and put it onto the system.

One of the main benefits of using a CRM is to have more visibility. One of my favorite features that many CRMs offer is a dynamic dashboard that can help you easily track the most important metrics for your organization. You can also track new leads generated this month, for example or forecasted opportunities that you would like to close this quarter it can also provide insight into your sales team’s activities to ensure that you’re all in sync.

Another key feature that is CRM conference is segmentation. When you have a detailed database of your contacts you can reach out to them in a strategic and personal way. Some possible segments you could track include customers potential customers referral partners and network connections. Most CRM’s also provide automation features if you can make everyone on your team more productive and minimize repetitive tedious tasks of course you would. By automating tasks it will help you manage your business better and that’s a no-brainer right. A couple of examples of automation use by our clients include generating it to set of tasks to follow up based on the specific stage of the sales process, or automatically sending email templates to new clients based on their interest product or service.

Overall the goal of a CRM is to increase productivity and empower you to run your business better. To give you some examples, Salesforce says that on average their users experience a 32% increase in productivity and according to Nucleus Research you get $8.71 back for every dollar you invest in a CRM. So to answer your question “Do I really need a CRM?” we’ll we’ll leave that up to you to decide.  Thanks so much for watching!
